Espai Orígens is a visitor centre focused on displaying the Prehistory research of the prepyrenees area, mainly centred to study the prehistoric caves of La Roca dels Bous and Cova Gran. We link the research made in the field and in the
CEPAP-UAB laboratory (Centre d’Estudis del Patrimoni Arqueològic de la Prehistòria of the Universitat de Barcelona) with the experience activities opened to all types of public. The visitor can complement the 2.0 visit to the archaeological site with the “hands-on” activities held in the Archaeological Park of Sant Llorenç de Montgai.

We advocate for a sustainable and environmentally tourism. This is the reason why we promote nature hiking or biking trails surrounded our centre, in the Montroig Mountains and close to the confluence of Segre and Noguera Pallaresa rivers.

LA ROCA DELS BOUS ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

50.000 years ago, groups of Neanderthals used to make temporary stops on a natural path between the lower foothills of the Pyrenees and the Segrià plains in the Cinglera de Cascalda. The geological processes that occurred in these impressive cliffs have preserved many traces of those Neanderthal occupations. Most of these findings came from what we know today as the archaeological site of La Roca dels Bous.

Thanks to the use of digital touch-screens and to experimental activities, La Roca dels Bous and the Archaeological Park of Sant Llorenç de Montgai provide a window into the past that shows how these ancestors and their lives were and how archaeology can help to reveal it.

La Roca dels Bous is a project developed by the Research Centre of the Archaeological Heritage in Prehistory of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona CEPAP-UAB).

ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK OF SANT LLORENÇ DE MONTGAI

The Archaeological Park of Sant Llorenç de Montgai shares its facilities with the catalan government educative services of “Camp d’Aprenentatge de la Noguera”. It is formed by different replicated Hunter-gatherers and Neolithic huts, and it is possible to carry on different “hands-on” activities.
